Paul Chretien May 3 1937 February 20 2018

Paul Chretien passed away suddenly the night of February 20th, 2018. Pre-deceased by his Mother Anny (Nee Ayotte), Father Maurice Chretien, and five siblings; Paul is survived by six siblings, Carmelle (Reggis), Gert (Paul), Terry (Al), Bob (Diane), John (Sharron), Denise (Eugene), Raymond (Jean); his Wife Gladys, seven children, fifteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. Known to his family and friends as “Paul”, he was born Joseph Arthur Leopold Chretien in St.Vincent Alberta, on May… Read More » 3rd 1937. Paul was married to Gladys Irene (Nee Barber), and the couple shared fifty wonderful years together. They had three beautiful daughters who blessed them with seven Grandchildren; Marantha and Kahlil Son and Daughter to April and Robert, Eden and Hailey Daughters to Tina and Robin, Ashleigh, Isabella and Jared Children to Paula and Bob. As well, Paul had four lovely children from a previous marriage: Richard John father to Brett and Garrett, Cheryl Ann Mother to Terra Lynn and Grandmother to Mikaela, Darrell Paul father to Brandon, Victoria and Nicholas, and Darlene Mae Mother to Johnathan and Salena.
I remember Paul in his later years. I never had a chance to know him as the cool, Fonzie-esq fellow in the corners of photographs. I knew him as Grandpa. As the man impossibly young for his age, who could fix anything and had an answer to every question. I think most I will miss his sense of humour; the little shocking jokes that would sneak out of his mouth and the smart-arse grin that would accompany them.
Paul retired in 2004, after surviving a near-fatal heart attack, allowing his grateful family thirteen years we otherwise would not have gotten. He was very much a family man, he enjoyed Family dinners, never letting you leave until you needed to loosen your belt; driving his grandchildren to school (or the dentist, or work…), and in general helping his family in any way he could. His final night, Paul had dinner with his Wife. He went to a Hockey game with his granddaughter, he saw the Rockets win, cheered on a fight, loved what he was doing and who he was with. He was happy.
Paul was an unconditionally kind man. The type of person you could always, always, rely on. Paul will live on in our hearts and in the small acts of kindness we find in day-to-day life. He will forever be missed, but never forgotten.
A celebration of life will be held May 21st 2018 from 2pm to 4pm at the Benvoulin Heritage Church (2279 Benvoulin Rd Kelowna, BC). Condolences can be sent to the family by visiting www.everdenrust.com
