With great sadness we announce the passing of Beatrice Heather Palmer, our beloved Aunt/Friend/Stepmother and Stepgrandmother, on August 23, 2018 at the age of 96. She died peacefully in her room at Nelson Jubilee Manor in Nelson, BC.
Born in South Slocan, BC to Edith and Frederick Russel, she was the youngest of five children. Her first husband was Leonard Sims during the war years. The second man in her life was George Benwell for several decades until his passing. In later years she married Walter Palmer and was his loving wife for the remainder of his years.
Beatrice lived her entire adult life in Nelson and was employed over the years by several businesses in the community. She was outgoing and never shied away from hard work or from experiencing new things. She was a supporter of the local hockey team and was known for bringing her cow bell to games. In her retirement, Beatrice loved to travel; her favourite trip being to Africa. She also enjoyed many cruises to interesting destinations. Her final years saw her living on the shores of her beloved Kootenay Lake.
Beatrice is survived by her seven nieces and nephews residing in BC and the UK and their extended families, as well as Walter’s children and extended families.
No service by request. Her families will say goodbye to our dear Beatrice at a private gathering.
