Norman Roger Branch
Col. Norman
Roger Branch was born in Bathurst, NB on January 13, 1942. He was the
son of the late Donald Francis Branch and Ruth
Moore.
He was raised
and educated in Bathurst. Norman enrolled as a Private in the
2nd Battalion, Royal New Brunswick Regiment
(North Shore), in 1959. He progressed through the ranks and was
promoted to Sergeant in 1963. In 1974, he was promoted to the rank of
Major and in 1977 appointed Deputy Commanding Officer of the
Battalion. In 1978, he was appointed Commanding Officer of
2nd Battalion, Royal New Brunswick Regiment
(North Shore) and assigned the rank of Acting Lieutenant Colonel. In
1981, he was transferred to Eastern New Brunswick District
Headquarters in Moncton. Between 1981 and 1984 he served as District
Staff Officer, Operations & Training. In 1985, he transferred
to 32 (Moncton) Service Battalion, and was appointed Deputy Commanding
Officer. In 1986, he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and assumed
command of the Battalion. In 1988, he was appointed Deputy District
Commander, Western New Brunswick Militia District. In 1991, he was
promoted to Colonel and assumed command of the District, a position he
held until 1992. In 2003, he was appointed Honorary Lieutenant Colonel
of the 2nd Battalion, Royal New Brunswick
Regiment (North Shore), a position he held for two terms, retiring in
2009.
Norman joined
NB Power as an apprentice Linesman in 1962 and completed his
apprenticeship in 1967. In 1975, he was appointed District Supervisor
for Bathurst, Campbellton and Dalhousie and in 1978, became the Branch
Manager for South Eastern New Brunswick. In 1988, he was promoted to
Manager, Distribution Field Operations for New Brunswick and in 1993,
appointed General Manager, Distribution. He retired from NB Power in
1996 with 34 years of service.
Norman was
Past President of the Riverview Veterans & Armed Forces
Association; a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, member of the
Dieppe Veterans Association and Past President of the Greater Moncton
Probus Club. He also served as a public representative of the Law
Society of New Brunswick Disciplinary Committee. He was a member of
Mount Royal United Church.
Norman will be sadly missed by his wife of 51
years, Patricia (Aucoin) Branch of Moncton; daughters, Natalie Branch
(Sean Gray) and Nancy Gauthier (Raymond); two granddaughters, Amy-Rae
Gauthier and Lucy Gray; brothers, Glendon (Clothilde), Donald (Ann)
and Gary (Elizabeth); sister-in-law, Debbie Branch and many nieces and
nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother
Harold.
A Service to
celebrate and honor Norman’s life will be held at Mount
Royal United Church, with date and time to be
announced.
