Norman Derrick Melanson
1965-2018
Melanson, Norman Derrick, 53
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of
Derrick. He passed away suddenly at home on December 11. Derrick was
born in Antigonish on December 1st, 1965 and lived in the
Tracadie/Afton area of Antigonish County.
Derrick was a welder by trade and spent most of his working
life employed with Dave MacPherson Welding in Antigonish. He had a
reputation for being a highly skilled welder in the
field.
Derrick had a great passion for fishing and the water,
whether it be fishing on a lake or out on a lobster boat lending a
helping hand. He enjoyed cooking and most of the time that involved
some type of seafood. He loved it all from lobster to clams and took
pride in making his delicious seafood chowder. He also enjoyed visits
with friends and family and a good game of checkers. Telling stories
and making people laugh brought Derrick great joy.
Derrick is survived by his « Pride and Joy »
daughter, Abrianna Melanson, Heatherton; his mother, Peggy MacPherson,
Antigonish; and sister Darlene (Jeffrey) Myette, Antigonish; nieces,
Jakalee and Jyleah; and former partner and mother of his daughter,
Heather MacGillivray.
Derrick was predeceased by his father Abraham Melanson,
maternal grandparents, John and Emma DeCoste; and paternal
grandparents Norman and Lucy Melanson.
Visitation will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm in
C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish. Funeral
service will be Saturday in the funeral home at 11:00am, Fr. John
Barry presiding. Burial in St. Ninian Cemetery.
In Memoriam, donations to Talbot House
