OBITUARY
Nora Neelands Caldbick
July 12, 1928 – August 11, 2018
On Saturday, August 11, 2018, Mom slipped away from us peacefully, leaving us bereft but so grateful for the light, the humour and the love she gave to us. She was one of three children born to Dr. Ralph Neelands and Beatrice Neelands in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. Mom was always a proud Northerner. She was particularly fond of the cottage at Sesekinika Lake where she met our father John Caldbick when she was 18. Mom graduated from Victoria College at the University of Toronto and received her Teaching Certificate. She taught in Richmond Hill and in Schumacher, Ontario before her growing brood of children became a full-time occupation. She was active in the community in Timmins, Ontario. She was appointed to the Board of Governors of Northern College of Applied Arts and Technology from January 1975 to December 1982 and served as well on the Timmins Library Board. Also in the early 1980s she was appointed by the Ontario Government as a member of the Advisory Council on Occupational Health and Occupational Safety. She and Dad were life-long learners and travelled extensively. After his death in 2008 she continued to travel mainly to Barbados. Our mother had a full and happy life. She always said she was the luckiest woman in the world. Nora is survived by her children David, Nora (Chris), Peter and Mary (Sara) and by her grandchildren, Charles (Hayley), Peter (Tessa), Samuel and Catherine and two great-grandchildren, Isla and Mabel. She is also survived by her brother Dr. Peter Neelands of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Predeceased by her son Alexander and her husband John and by her sister Anne.
