Nora passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, at home on March 20th, 2018 at the age of 87 years. Nora was born in Manchester, England, to Edith and Samuel Lockett. She moved to Canada in 1957, eventually settling in Vancouver, where she married and raised a family of four children. Nora was personable, warm and caring. She was a strong woman, with steely determination and was proudly independent. Nora was active in her community and played a vital role in her children’s lives, often volunteering for numerous school and extra-curricular activities. She worked at Vancouver General Hospital for many years until her retirement at the age of 60. After moving to the Sunshine Coast in 1994, retirement didn’t slow her down. She often joked she was busier now than when she was working. Nora loved life’s adventures, exploring the outdoors and enjoyed a good laugh. She was an avid reader, enjoyed bird watching, gardening and was a fantastic cook and baker. She loved to travel, often packing her bags and heading home to England, then off to a new destination with family members.
Nora is predeceased by her parents, her sister Joan Cooke and brothers Sam and Roy Lockett. She is survived by: her sibling’s families overseas; her loving children Linda, Lisa, Gillian, Greg and their families, granddaughter Alana and many wonderful special friends. The Celebration of Nora’s Life will take place on Tuesday, April 24th at 1:30 pm at the Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden Pavilion, 5941 Mason Road, Sechelt. Her children would like to extend their sincere gratitude to her many friends and members of the community who loved and supported Nora over the years. Nora was a fun-loving, remarkable woman, daughter, sister, friend, aunt, mother and grand-mother. She was an inspiration to us all and will be dearly missed. Nora will be forever loved and shall remain in the hearts of those she touched.
