1925 ~ 2018
Nils Nilsson passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home. He was predeceased by his wife Helen on February 19, 2008. Nils was also predeceased by his parents Sven and Anna and three brothers Eric, Oscar and Harry.
Nils is survived by his stepson Lawrence Schultz (Millie), 2 grandchildren Mark Schultz (Sheila) and Jodi Jansen (Dan), and 6 great granddaughters, as well as 2 brothers Herman and Albert and three sisters Margit, Diane and Dagmar.
Nils Hugo Nilsson was born in Backe, Sweden on December 20, 1925. He immigrated to Canada with his parents Sven and Anna Nilsson, and his oldest sister Margit in 1928.
The family settled on a homestead in Lee River. Nils started his first job working in the Bird River area for a mining outfit. From there he became a milkman in the Lac du Bonnet area for Alex McIntosh, also doing jobs on the farm. From there he worked for Waters Construction in the 1940’s as an oiler working in bush camps. In 1952 he started working for Winnipeg Hydro in Pointe du Bois, which eventually brought him to Gillam, MB working on the construction of the power dam. When that job was completed he decided he should try his hand at barbering. He took a barber course and practiced for a short time in Lac du Bonnet. This turned out not to be his forte and he returned to work for Winnipeg Hydro at Pointe du Bois until he retired.
Nils was a very honest, hard-working and religious man. He will be greatly missed and remembered by his family and all who knew him.
Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 11 at 1:00 p.m. at the Whiteshell Baptist Church in Seven Sisters, MB. Interment will follow in the Baptist Cemetery in River Hills.
If desired, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
