Nicholas Penner Brandt, beloved son, brother, uncle and friend passed away at the age of 18 in Edmonton Alberta on March 23, 2018.
He is survived by his parents, Randy & Susan Brandt, siblings Jordan (Thurston), Russell and Jessie, nephews and nieces Jayden, Casey, Jonah and Sidney, grandmothers Helen Penner and Mary Brandt, as well as many uncles, aunts and cousins.
He was predeceased by his grandfathers Gerhard Penner and Jacob Brandt and his uncle Ronald Scherr.
Nick was born on July 1, 1999 in Winnipeg Manitoba 45 minutes before his twin sister Jessie.
Nick moved from Steinbach Manitoba to St. Paul, Alberta with his family at the age of 4. He had his entire education in St. Paul. Nick was a bright student, obtaining honours every year that he was in school, without effort.
Nick won the Rutherford Scholarship for attaining the honour roll for each of his three years of high school. He graduated from high school June 30 2017, just before turning 18 at midnight.
In the fall of 2017 Nick enrolled in MacEwan University in the Faculty of Science with the goal of obtaining a Computer Science degree.
Nick was wickedly funny, clever, kind and a joy to be around. He enjoyed playing with his nieces and nephews, whom he adored. He enjoyed downhill skiing, reading science fiction, and playing Dungeons and Dragons and video games with his friends. He spent hours with his family playing board games.
Nick enjoyed going on vacations with his family. He said that he wanted to visit all seven continents, though his count ended at four.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 10:00 am at First Mennonite Church, 3650-91 Street Edmonton.
In lieu of flowers, it is the wish of Nick’s family that donations be made to any suicide prevention or mental health organization of choice.
