Nancy Isabelle Parker, a long-time resident of Kirkland Lake, died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, October 3 at Teck Pioneer Residence (TPR), at the age of 88.
Born in Windsor in 1930, Nancy was the daughter of Henry and Saara Rouvinen; also from Kirkland Lake, who had immigrated from Finland. Nancy was a KLCVI Alumnus and after graduating from the University of Toronto with a diploma in Dental Nursing, she resided in North Bay for several years before returning to the Kirkland Lake area in 1966 with her husband Howard and their young family. Nancy was a volunteer at the Swastika United Church, a member of the Beta Sigma Phi and a key contributor to the family-owned Princess Hotel during the 1970’s. She was a resident at Teck Pioneer for the past 10 years. Nancy was a published poet and a gourmet cook with an impeccable eye for detail. She enjoyed socializing, golf, music, playing bridge and entertaining. She will long be remembered for her sharp wit and sense of humour.
Nancy is survived by her daughters Kelley Evans (Don), Sara Jane Parker and Colleen McGill (Cliff), her grandsons Matthew Sandrin (Amber), Jacob Sandrin and Gino Sandrin, great-grandchildren Carter, Isabella, & Anthony, and other cherished extended family members.
The family wishes to extend their sincerest thanks to the staff at TPR for the exceptional care and thoughtful gestures provided by many that went well above and beyond to always make her feel special. She has now joined the love of her life, Howard in their final resting place…. “There’s No Place Like Home”……To Oz My Friend.
