Myrna « Jane » Murphy
Born the youngest of three, Baby Jane made her way into a world that didn’t quite fit on July 15, 1966 in Halifax, Nova Scotia and left on August 19, 2018. She lived her life her way, every day. Whether that was by enjoying a really good ice cream treat, answering the questions on Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and Price Is Right, or reading Clive Cussler or Jackie Collins stories – Jane dropped her first name and lived.
In the last part of her life, Jane endured hospital stays because of physical and mental challenges that puzzled many. Throughout it all her mother, Barbara Claire Murphy (Greene), took care to ensure Jane was safe and being cared for. While Jane admired « Mom’s » sewing and knitting skills, it was Jane’s exquisite cross-stitch work and wool sock-making skills that were celebrated and the envy of many.
Her brother Terry (Hansi & Fur Nephew Kevin) Granville Ferry, NS were well-loved by Jane and she looked forward to Kevin adventure updates via the telephone, which was her main tool of communication with the world. She never forgot a phone number and could do math calculations in her head faster and easier than most on a calculator.
Jane’s laughter could be heard from Dartmouth to Toronto during her daily phone visits with her sister and brother-in-law, Don Pyatt. Jane shared a special bond with her big sister and closest friend, Tina Murphy (her “otter” sister). They played together their whole lives first in playgrounds and barns and later on day trips or picnicking at Cow Bay.
Many look to visit the Seven Wonders of the World, but for Jane, the wonder and the magic could be found right here, closer to home. She delighted in her time spent at the Murphy homestead in Wards Brook, NS or her Grampie’s farmhouse in Riverview, NB – with its barn filled with kittens and horses, and the annual Easter Egg Hunting challenge. It was the simple things in life that brought Jane the greatest joy.
In addition to her family, her circle of support included her two fur babies, Thea and Topper, and her past partners Danny Walker, Springhill and later, Logan Sutherland, Truro.

Jane often hummed « How do you like me now? » as she agreed with county music star, Toby Keith « ain’t it a cruel and funny world ». What’s wonderful is that from this day forward she’s nothing but rocky mountain high!
