Obituary of Murray Long
Long, Murray, 60, of Alma, New Brunswick, passed away on June 13, 2018 at Moncton City Hospital surrounded by his family.
Born July 19, 1957, Murray grew up in Riverview and worked alongside his parents, Earl and Patricia (Lister) Long, at Long’s Variety Store on Pine Glen Road before moving to Antigonish, Nova Scotia in 1995 when they purchased the Dairy Queen.
Murray’s dedication to the DQ/OJ brand saw him become a devoted operator who sat on countless committees and whose knowledge, opinion, and advice was often sought after by franchises and staff from across the country.
Murray loved to travel with his family, and had a passion for Walt Disney World, a passion that has rubbed off on his family. Fundy National Park was a place close to his heart and he always wanted to live in Alma; a dream that came true in 2007. Murray loved to take long drives on his motorcycle, drives that often took him across cable ferries, the McCain airfield and Potato World. He was a committed member of the congregation at Penobsquis Baptist Church, a volunteer with the Fundy Guild, and a lifelong racing fan who had season passes at Riverside International Speedway in Antigonish.
Murray will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 35 years Carol (McPhee) and proud daughters Shannon (Jamie Stewart) of Antigonish, and Michelle (Andrew Vanbuskirk) of Riverview. He will also be missed by his mother Patricia of Riverview, brother Rodney (Beth) of Victoria, BC, special uncle George (Moyra) of Sus, aunt Evelyn Dixon(Claude) of Rothesay, mother in law Joyce McPhee (Riverview), along with cousins, nieces and nephews. He was a proud grandfather to his grandson Chase and his granddog Hurley.
He was predeceased by father Earl, brother Robert, grandparents Percy and Muriel Lister and George and Viola Long.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sus (506-433-1176) with visitation being held at the Sus Baptist Church, 28 Church Ave. on Monday, June 18, 2018 from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.
