With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved brother and uncle, Murray Brockmeyer. Murray passed away peacefully on Monday, October 15th at the age of 61. The fifth of nine children, Donald Murray Brockmeyer was born in Melville, SK on June 29, 1957.
Murray grew up and attended school in Lemberg, Moose Jaw and Regina, Sask. He drove truck for Saputo delivering cheese. He also worked for Trifon’s Pizza in Regina where he made pizza dough every night and learned many of his baking skills which ran close competition to his own mother’s.
Employment brought Murray from Saskatchewan to Fernie in 1984, and in 1988 he began his career with the Canadian Pacific Railway. It was in Fernie that Murray met Sue, who captured his heart and they got married December 12, 1992. Murray effortlessly took on the role of a doting husband, loving and caring for Sue until her death in November 2007.
A patient, soft-spoken man with a friendly smile, Murray was selfless and thoughtful. He was a kind and gentle soul who cared for and about others, and always hospitable to those who entered his home. Murray was an excellent cook, always making delicious meals and pies for others to enjoy. Being in the kitchen was how Murray liked to relax.
As an avid hockey fan, Murray dedicated many years as timekeeper for the Fernie Ghostriders where he enjoyed visiting with friends and cheering on the hometown team. He also enjoyed keeping in touch with people on Facebook and played his games diligently every day.
Murray was a friend to many, a stranger to none. He will be forever missed; his memory forever treasured.
Murray is survived by seven siblings: Carol Breton of Saskatoon, Karen of Sparwood, Joyce (Doug) Robertson of Regina, Dr. Donna Brockmeyer (Brad Klebaum) of Saskatoon, Arlene (Ron) Sabo of Cochrane, Theodore of Saskatoon, and James (Thuy Mai) of Calgary. He is survived by many nieces and nephews, two especially close to his heart are Crystal and Leah Elliot of Calgary. He is also survived by his stepdaughter Kathryn Karroll and many wonderful neighbors and online friends.
Murray was predeceased by his parents, Theodore and Clara (Victoria Clara Bayda), loving wife Susan (Henry) and their beloved dog Tiga, brother Leon, stepdaughter Juanita Walker, nephew Adam Sabo and niece Courtney Sabo.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Murray can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
In this virtual world, which Murray so enjoyed, his family invite you to share memories, photos and condolences at this website.
Please pray for the repose of Murray’s soul.
