Muriel Elsie Ritchie 2018

OBITUARY
Muriel Elsie Ritchie
July 26, 1939 – November 9, 2018
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Muriel Ritchie on Friday, November 9th, 2018.
Muriel was born at home in Mount Pleasant, Digby County on July 26th, 1939.
Muriel is predeceased by her parents, Helen (Bremner) and Delbert Forrest, son Peter Parent, and her sister Carolyn Soulsby. She is survived by her husband Malcolm Ritchie; son Jamie (Suzanne) Parent, Dartmouth; her niece Leslie (Eric) Skinner, Halifax; nephew Alan (Darlene) Soulsby, Tantallon; grandson Ryan; granddaughter Vanessa; 2 great grandchildren and great nieces; many dear and loved cousins; Stepsons Scott (Susan) Ritchie, Bridgetown, Stephen (Kim) Ritchie, Lantz, and Randy (Valerie) Ritchie, Ottawa; and 4 very special Step-grandchildren.
Muriel retired as an office administrator from O’Neil Fisheries, with many happy memories. She was a member of the Grace United Church, the North Range Art Club, and the Red Hat Society. She volunteered at the Food Bank and Christmas Daddies. Muriel enjoyed participating in the Valley Senior Games and staying active. Muriel will be remembered as a loving wife and mother, an avid animal lover, and a talented artist. She had a loving soul and was always excited for visits from her many friends and relatives, and loved to take photos to capture those happy times. She always had a ready smile and cheerful word for all.
Muriel wishes to acknowledge Susan Ritchie for her unwavering support and for being by Muriel’s side all through this journey. Muriel wishes to also thank the VON, especially Nurse Practitioner, Erin; her niece Leslie, and all her cousins and dear friends for their support. Her final thanks go to her beloved son Jamie, for always being there for her. Muriel’s life-long belief in the positive power of prayer gave her the strength she needed to face cancer’s ultimate conclusion with grace and dignity.
Cremation to take place under the care and direction of Jayne’s Funeral Home, Digby. There will be no service or visitation at Muriel’s request. Interment will be at a later date, when she and Malcolm can be laid to rest together. Upon that time, there will be a graveside service for immediate family only.
Donations in Muriel’s memory may be made to the Digby Food Bank, the Grace United Church, an Animal Rescue, or charity of choice. Condolences may be sent to James Parent, 610 Wright Avenue, Box 426, Dartmouth, NS, B3B 0H8, or online at www.jaynesfuneralhome.com
