Monica June Freedman

Monica died peacefully with her son by her side on June 12, 2018 at Grace Manor Nursing Home in Ottawa, Ontario. She will be remembered by her sons Marc (Nancy) and Jordan (Michelle) Freedman; grandchildren Mackenzie, Samson, Jacob, and Elliot and grandchildren Evangeline and Beatrice Freedman, Otis and Nathaniel Murphy and her many special cousins in the United States. Monica was born on August 16, 1940 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Louis and Eva (Lederer) Newman. She emigrated to Kingston, Ontario in 1965 with her young family and husband Nelson Freedman. Monica embraced her new country and spent most of her career working to improve it. She had a long career as a social worker for Correction Service Canada as well as extensive volunteer service with the Elizabeth Fry Society and the Hintonburg Community Association. When able to, Monica enjoyed keeping up with politics, news, saying hello to friends in the neighborhood and eating good food. in her memory can be made to the Elizabeth Fry Society of Ottawa or Kingston online at CanadaHelps.org www.TubmanFuneralHomes.com
