Peacefully on Tuesday February 27, 2018 at West Park Long Term Care, Toronto in her 93rd year. Mims was born and raised in Claresholm, Alberta and developed a love of retail working in her father’s, “Fairbairn Brothers”, hardware store as a teen. After graduating from the University of Manitoba in 1948 she moved to Montreal to pursue her career. She balanced the demands of work while successfully raising a family on her own. In 1970 she was promoted to Mappin’s Head Office taking her to Toronto. She happily settled with her family in Oakville.
She was a strong believer in Women’s rights and equality, and active member and President (1994) of the Canadian Federation of University Women.
She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends as someone living life to the fullest, enjoying reading, theatre, classical music, great food and wine, and travelling. Mims was a remarkable mother who encouraged self fulfillment and instilled in her children the importance of family. Loving mother of Greg (Beth Patterson), Laura (Dean Clark) and Anne (Thomas Williams). Devoted Nana to Kirsten, Greg, Emily and Molly.
Visitation will be held on Thursday March 22, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville (one block East of Kerr Street) A celebration of Mim’s life will be held on Saturday March 24, 2018 at St. John’s United Church, 262 Randall Street, Oakville at 3 pm, with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers remembrances to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.
