Brookfield/Coalburn
May 19, 1930 – August 17,
2018
Milton Earl (Buddy) MacDonald was born in
Coalburn,Nova Scotia. Buddy was the eldest son of the late Alexander
Martin and Annie Catherine (Haggart)
MacDonald.
Buddy passed away peacefully on August 17, 2018
at Elk Court Nursing Home in Brookfield Nova Scotia, where he had been
a resident since March 2013.
Buddy is survived by sisters Isabel Jay, Blanche
Latto, and sister in law Dorothy MacDonald, all from Ontario and
several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers Alex of
Rexdale Ontario and infant brother Spurgeon of Coalburn, Gerald
Sutherland of Arnprior Ontario, sister Mary MacMillan of Wilmot Nova
Scotia, brothers in law, Hugh Latto of Weston Ontario and Ernie Jay of
King City Ontario, Chad MacMillan of Wilmot Nova Scotia and sister in
law Elma Sutherland of Arnprior Ontario.
As a young man Buddy followed the road to
Toronto, as many of his family members did to find work. While there
he worked for a jeweler. And also like some of his siblings he made
his way back to Nova Scotia. He worked as a machinist at Trenton Steel
Works, delivered coal and worked for the Department of Highways as a
plow and grader driver. He was a hard worker and held several jobs
over the years working in road construction as a heavy equipment
operator. He worked for Tidewater, Aberdeen and Lafarge in Nova Scotia
and Newfoundland.
Buddy liked to garden and often joked with his
friends about being a farmer because he had such a large garden. In
his younger days he loved to go dancing. He also liked to travel to
visit family and friends in Florida and Ontario. His hobby
in his younger days was scuba diving. He loved to go out on
Perry Silver’s boat to go diving in both Isaacs and Country
Harbour. He would tell stories to anyone who would listen and enjoyed
doing so with the staff at Elk Court or when friends and family came
to visit.
As per his wishes cremation has taken place.
Visitation will take place from 2-4 pm Saturday August 25, 2018 at
H.W. Angus Funeral Home 256 King St. New Glasgow, followed by a
committal service at the Thorburn Cemetery in Thorburn N.S.. Donations
in his memory may be made to the Thorburn Cemetery
Association.
The family would like to give a special thanks to
all of the staff, past and present, of Elk Court in Brookfield for the
wonderful care of Buddy on Creamery Lane.To all of them who would
listen to his stories and who helped him with his gardening and to
everyone who made each day more comfortable for him. Your kindness is
truly appreciated and will not be
forgotten.
Also a special thank you to the family of the
late Elizabeth Reeves of Coalburn for all the chicken dinners and
apple pies over the years and for looking out for Buddy. We truly
appreciate your thoughtfulness.
