Mildred Herzog 2018

Mildred Herzog
Mildred May Peterson was born July 3, 1919 in Gull Lake, SK, the eldest daughter to Ben and May Peterson. Mildred, along with sisters, Phylis and Joyce, grew up spending summers at the farm in the Earview District, and winters in Gull Lake.
Mildred married Walter Herzog of the Banks district, in a double wedding with his brother Alf (Palma), in June 1942. Mildred and Walter settled in Webb, SK, from 1941-1973, Walter working with Pioneer Grain. They had 2 daughters, Evelyn and Carol, who spent their entire childhood at Webb. Walt and Mildred kept socially active in their community through curling, local dances, playing cards, and attending ball games. Mildred was a part of the daily coffee row for more than 18 years. She was also an active member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church.
Living near the Webb school, Mildred was always available to offer a helping hand; sewing on buttons, fixing ripped clothing, bandaging scrapes or looking after a sick student until the parents could pick them up. She was always there to help.
After 32 years in Webb, Walt and Mildred transferred to Shackelton where they met new friends and neighbors. They loved their time in their new home. Their Grandchildren spent many weekends with them in Shackelton and have many cherished memories of that time. In 1979, Walt retired and they purchased a home in Swift Current. During their retirement, they enjoyed trips to Alaska and Florida. They enjoyed spending time with family and watching their Grandchildren in sports and other activities.
Walter passed away in 1983.
Mildred enjoyed travel to many destinations including bus trips with one of her dearest friends, Ora Wetterstrand, and her most memorable trip with her sisters travelling to England where they found their Gedney ancestral home (maternal). Mildred later moved to Golden West Manor where she actively participated in many social activities including card games and weekly church services. She had a great love of sports and a few of her favorite pass-times were watching curling or her favorite Blue Jays baseball, along with Saturday coffees with her daughters and friends at Springs Restaurant, and spending time with her family.
In Sept. 2016, her health failing, she moved to The Meadows. She continued to spend her time watching her favorite sports on TV, playing cards and helping to fold laundry. She was loved by all the staff for her positive outlook and beautiful personality.
Mildred held a special place in the hearts of all that she met. Her kind, gentle and caring spirit left an impression on everyone. Her family truly cherished her; she was one of a kind. She embodied the sincerity of a true friend, the tenderness and compassion of a Mother, Grandma and Great Grandma; she was the perfect combination of caring, sweetness, love and laughter.
She will be loved always, missed dearly and never forgotten.
Mildred is predeceased by husband, Walter (1983), parents Ben (1975) and May (1984), brother Bernard (1920), sister Phyllis (Joe) Ehman (2006), sister Joyce (Keith)Boyler (2017) and son-in-law Harvey Pister (1993).
