OBITUARY
Michail KATSOULAKIS
April 15, 1928 – July 9, 2018
KATSOULAKIS, Michail, born April 15, 1928 in Crete, Greece. He passed away July 9, 2018 with his devoted son by his side. He is predeceased by his wife Dimitra (2004) and survived by his children Angela (Jim) and George, and his loving granddaughters Katerina, Demetra, Sophia and Christina; his beloved siblings Stefani, Manoli, Katina and Pavlos, their families and his many nieces and nephews.
Mike came to Canada with his wife and daughter in 1963, residing in Inuvik, NWT where he soon became the owner of the dining facilities in the Mackenzie Hotel. In 1970, he was chosen to cook for Queen Elizabeth II’s commonwealth tour; he was complimented on this feast and invited to meet the Queen afterwards. Mike and his family moved to BC in 1972, where he bought the Pender Place Restaurant. In 1977, he started Venice Pizza on King George Hwy working well into his 80s, and was presented with a service award from the RCMP.
Mike loved his restaurant and his customers with all his heart, and no matter where he went in his daily life he always managed to meet a customer who loved him and his cooking. Mike enjoyed and embraced each day with a welcoming smile and good word for everyone. Mike loved to sing and Greek dance, jumping up on the tip of a chair with the spirt and lightness of a young man.
He loved his family and helped everyone.
We thank our Thea Mary Syskakis and her family for their companionship and support of Mike and George; Thea Angela for calling every day and Thea Helen and our dear cousins for always being there when needed. Special thank you to Theo Pavlos, who came from Greece. Prayers will be held on Thursday, July 19th at 7:00 pm at St. Georges Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 4500 Arbutus Street, Vancouver, where a funeral service will be held on Friday, July 20th at 12:00 pm. Burial to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Burnaby. Father Constantinos Economos officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
