Peacefully at Joseph Brant Hospital on Saturday, May 5, 2018 in his 90th year, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Mary (nee Walls) for 67 years. Dear father to Kathy Starodub (Keith Smith), Elizabeth Nestico (Pino), Mary Ellen Starodub (Colin), Patricia Starodub (Patrick), Peter Starodub (Josephine). Cherished grandfather of Graham (Allison), Trevor (Natasha), Sarah, Laura, Michael, Julian, Leigh, Gabrielle, and Michael. Proud great grandfather to Evan. Michael will be missed by his siblings Pat Hamilton (Gary) and Carl (Mary), his nieces and nephews and their families. Predeceased by his parents Peter and Mary Starodub, his brother Frank and infant daughter Olivia.
Mike was an avid fly fisherman, golfer, curler, and gardener. He loved his career as a teacher for the Hamilton Board of Education, spending over 20 years at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School and believed in the power of education to change lives. A long-time member of Holy Rosary parish and the Aldershot community, he contributed to the well-being of many and will be missed.
Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333) on Wednesday from 3 – 5 and 7 – 9pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church (287 Plains Road E.) on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at 10a.m with reception to follow. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. For those who wish memorial donations to a charity of your choice or a selfless act of kindness.
