Obituary Overview
With Heartfelt Love
Suddenly and unexpectedly on October 15, 2018 in his home, at the age 59. Ex-husband but lifelong friend of Sandra (nee Grant) Taylor and loving father of Madeline Taylor. Mike was the son of the late Charles Frederick Taylor and the late Mary (nee Prior) Taylor, both of Manchester, England. Mike was brother to the late Peter Taylor, Robert Taylor, and Christine Taylor. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. Dear friend of Kathy March.
Born in Manchester in 1959, Mike moved to India with his parents as a baby. While growing up in India, he attended St. Xavier’s Boys School. At the age of 12 he moved to Montreal and attended John Rennie High School. His family later moved to Port Colborne. He completed his diploma at Port Colborne High School where he met his future wife Sandra, in the library. He then completed his Bachelor of Arts in Greco-Roman History at Wilfrid Laurier University, and followed this with a Master of Arts in Canadian History. At Laurier, he was part of the Peace Club, and was a founding member of the Graduate Student Association. Mike purchased his father’s marine service business and expanded it to cover the US and Latin America. Following the close of the business, Mike helped to create and co-owned The Spa Port Colborne. Mike held various other positions, his most recent being at Ting in St. Catharines for the last several years.
Mike had unquenchable thirst for knowledge. During his lifetime, he enjoyed traveling abroad, photography, winemaking, gardening, learning about other cultures, and spending time with friends and family. Mike was a great dad who was very proud of his daughter. He will be fondly remembered by Madeline for their trips to H.H. Knoll playground, his impromptu history lessons, and his delicious Indian cooking. Mike had a wonderful sense of humour and an amazing memory for historical details. He had a way with words; he could meld them into a poem, a rational argument, or the kindest of sentiments. Mike cared deeply about the state of the world, and the lives and futures of people. He quickly connected with others and made them feel at ease, forming many friendships in all aspects of his life.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Michael Taylor 2018.
