Michael Redmond Power
1945-2018
Power, Michael Redmond, 73, of Williams Point, Antigonish
County, passed away suddenly on October 29, 2018, at St.
Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Born in Antigonish, he was the only son of the late Redmond
and Dorothy « Dot » (MacDonald) Power.
Mike spent many years working for Nova Construction during
the early years of the company, where he made many life-long friends
and gathered stories he would tell for years. He ventured into the
rock quarry business, eventually forming his own company, Atlantic
Coast Materials, where he sold aggregate along the Eastern Seaboard
and throughout the Caribbean. Well-respected among his colleagues,
Mike was highly regarded for his work ethic, dedication, fairness and
loyalty. Mike also took much pride and involvement in his community
and was an active volunteer on St. Ninian Parish Council, helping to
spearhead the fundraising for the construction of St. Ninian Place. He
was especially generous with his time for organizations with which his
children were involved, being on the executive of Antigonish Minor
Hockey and the Antigonish Aquanauts Swim Team. Mike was known for his
large outgoing personality, his distinctive deep voice, his love of
dogs, and for being an avid racing fan. Mike shared his love of good
food and conversation with his family and many friends, who witnessed
his generosity time and again as he welcomed all into his home for a
visit and a drink. Most of all, Mike was a family man and was most
proud to meet his first grandchild, just two short weeks
ago.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lillian (MacFarlane);
daughters, Michelle and Stephanie, Antigonish; son, Andrew, and
daughter-in-law, Sylvia Navas Faria, Ottawa; precious grandson,
Charles Thomas « Charlie »; and will be remembered
fondly by his cousins, in-laws, extended family, and many colleagues
and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm in
C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish. Funeral Mass
will be held Saturday at 10:30am in St. Ninian Cathedral, Reverend
Donald MacGillivray presiding. Burial in the parish cemetery at a
later date.
In Memoriam, donations to St. Martha’s Regional
Hospital Foundation or charity of your choice appreciated. Online
