Michael « Mike » Chipman Schofield
Michael
« Mike » C. Schofield passed away peacefully at The Moncton
Hospital with his family by his side on Wednesday, September 12, 2018.
Born in Rothesay, N.B., he was the son of the late Chipman
« Chips » Schofield and Elizabeth Thomson
Armitage.
He attended
Rothesay Collegiate School followed by Royal Military College. He
earned his Engineering degree from the University of New Brunswick in
1958 and a Masters in Business from the University of Western Ontario
in 1964. He was a Certified Management Accountant, a Certified
Financial Planner, and a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute.
Although he began a career in marketing and management in B.C. and
Ontario, he eventually turned to the investment business and worked in
Toronto, Montreal and finally Moncton, N.B., where he was manager of
National Bank Financial.
While in
Moncton, he served as a member of the Associated Alumni Council at
UNB, and was eventually appointed to the Board of Governors in 1986.
He was chair of the board from 1992 – 1994. He received
several awards for his outstanding service to both the board and to
UNB, including the Alumni Award of Honour. Over the years, he worked
as a volunteer for the handicapped at both local and provincial
levels, played bridge, loved his years of golf and football, and was a
lifelong fan of the Toronto Argonauts and the UNB hockey
team.
Mike will be
sadly missed by his wife of 55 years, Nancy (King) Schofield from
Grand Barachois; children, Susan « Alex » Elizabeth Schofield
(David Roach) of Halifax, Paul Joseph Schofield of Grand Barachois and
David Patrick Schofield (Kim) of Dieppe; grandchildren, Emerson,
Isabelle and Olivia of Halifax; sister, Sheila Thomson Beatty (late
David); niece, Heather Beatty Babut; nephew, Gregory Field Beatty and
the late Derek « Chips » Beatty.
Visitation
at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on
Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. A Service to celebrate
Mike’s life will be held at Fergusons Funeral Home Chapel on
Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at 1:30 pm with Pastor Scott Ryder
officiating. Reception in the Funeral Home Reception Centre following
the service.
Mike’s family would like to extend their
appreciation to the caring staff of ProTem Health Services at 77 Gorge
Road, the 4th Floor Neurological ICU, and the
Emergency Department of The Moncton Hospital for the compassion shown
to him and his family.
Donations in
his memory to Moncton Employment Training Services (METS), the Greater
Moncton SPCA or the Friends of The Moncton Hospital would be
