Mike died peacefully but unexpectedly in his sleep. He is deeply missed by his partner of 38 years, Joanne, two sons, John (Angela), David (Rachael), grandchildren Jack and Harriet, and his sister Hilary. He was predeceased by his twin brother Martyn.
Mike emigrated from England in 1968 as a newly minted metallurgist and spent several happy, productive years working in the mining industry in N.W.T. and B.C. He eventually settled in Vancouver where he embarked on a career in consultancy and sales, which gave him the opportunity to travel and work in many parts of the world.
After he and Joanne retired to the Sunshine Coast in 2001, Mike was able to fully indulge his passion for golf. Wednesday mornings always saw him working with the Trail Builders in Hidden Grove. Birding and biking were his other hobbies, and his smoked salmon was legendary.
Mike was known for his sardonic wit, calm nature (not when his golf game was off) and genuine interest in others. He battled many health issues over the past several years, but continued to live, laugh, and enjoy life. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Blue Ocean Golf Course, Sechelt, Thursday, August 9th, at 2:00 pm.
