MCFADDEN Marjorie Ethel —

MCFADDEN, Marjorie Ethel

Mom passed away New Year’s Day, January 1, 2018. She was born in Creston, July 6, 1927, and lived on a large acreage with her parents Ethel and Walter Jackson and her two older brothers Roy and John. From an early age Mom spent many happy hours riding her horse Gypsy around the countryside and down to Twin Bays, on Kootenay Lake, in the summers. Mom was an accomplished tennis player, swimmer, skier and outdoor enthusiast. In her early years, Mom attended Camosun College in Victoria to obtain her teaching certificate and returned to Creston to teach in the primary grades. Our Dad, Ray McFadden, was just beginning his teaching career in Creston, and it was here that Mom and Dad met. They married on June 29, 1951.Together forever. They were each other’s best friends and their love was evident to anyone they met along the way.
Mom was very active in the tennis community winning numerous trophies in competitions including club champion at the Kelowna Golf & Country Club. They enjoyed creek fishing and hiking around Kootenay Lake often camping out in a tent with only the barest of necessities. Parties at home and at our lake cabin always included music and laughter with the many friends and family that surrounded them.
Mom is predeceased by her husband Ray and survived by their four children, Frank (Lindsay), Kathleen (Eric) Heffernan, David (Andrea), Bruce (Letitia). Mom and Dad have ten-grandchildren Stuart (Jennifer) and Cameron (Courtney) McFadden, Shaun (Megan) and David Heffernan, Rory (Alyssa) and Liam McFadden and Keely (Fabien) Bruel, Rebecca, Duncan and William. They also have five great-grandchildren, Cole, Hudson and Cohen, and their sisters Brielle and Everleigh.
Mom and Dad and family enjoyed attending many happy celebrations of their grandchildren in recent years. We would like to thank the kindness of the people who have enriched the lives of our family in Yuma, Arizona, Kelowna and Armstrong Bay in Creston and other places beyond. You have all been invaluable in helping weave the beautiful quilt that was our Moms’ life.
We would like to thank Dr. Mackle, the care aides and staff at both Chatsworth and Orchard Manor- and her companion and friend Victoria from We Care, who all cared for Mom during the final years of her life.
This is a favourite saying of Mom’s and reflects her timeless wisdom and love.
‘ Buy two loaves of bread.
Sell one. And with the dole,
Buy hyacinths for the soul.’
Our family will take Mom and Dad to their beloved Kootenay Lake this summer, where they will be laid to rest beside Walter and Ethel Jackson in Lister, Canyon B.C.
