Maxwell Max Graham Embrett 2018

Obituary Overview
Maxwell « Max » Graham Embrett
Maxwell Graham Embrett, 86, of Dartmouth, died on Thursday, June 14, 2018, after a long
and courageous battle with cancer. Max was the son of the late Victor and Evon (Conrad)
Embrett and was predeceased by brothers Victor, Bill, Carl and Gary and half-sister Betty. He
is survived by his beloved wife Marie (Slocum) and sister Gail Embrett (Ken Banfield). He is the
cherished father of Kim Embrett-Smith (Hugh Smith), Dartmouth; Cheryl Embrett (Dan Cox),
Toronto; Paul Embrett (Margaret), Dartmouth; and special niece, like a daughter, Tara Embrett
(Charles Plant), Dartmouth; four grandchildren, Corey (Stephanie Wilson), Kelsey (D.J.
Kennedy), Christopher, Scotia; four great-grandchildren, Colin, Keegan, Nathan and Logan
Kennedy; and many nieces and nephews. Max was a firefighter with the Canadian Armed
Forces for 32 years until his retirement in 1982. He loved family, baseball and Nova Scotia. “Big
Southpaw” Max Embrett played baseball throughout his military career and when he stopped
pitching, he became one of the Blue Jays biggest fans. Max served in many places during his military career — France, Germany, Quebec, Ontario and in Nova Scotia, where he was the happiest. He grew up in the North End of Halifax and summers
were spent at his father’s camp in Fall River where so many happy family memories were made.
As much as Max loved Nova Scotia and baseball, the biggest love of his life was his wife, Marie,
or “Sweetpea,” as he called her. They celebrated their 63rd anniversary on May 14th. Max was
a regular at the Cole Harbour Place swimming pool for more than 20 years and enjoyed
travelling in his retirement, including trips to Hawaii, Alaska and a special anniversary cruise to
Bermuda, to which he treated his entire family. Max and Marie always looked forward to their
yearly trip to Toronto to visit their daughter and take in a Blue Jays game. Max’s smile was as
big as his heart and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
