It is with sorrow we announce the passing of Mavis on April 19. Mavis was predeceased by her husband Roy after celebrating 30 years of marriage and her sister Phyllis Parkinson. She is survived by her step daughter, Colleen Foster and her family in Australia. Mavis was born in Oxbow, Saskatchewan.
Mavis was a graduate of the University of Manitoba . She taught school in western Canada. After a couple of years she decided that teaching was not for her and she moved on to more enjoyable things.
She worked for the British Admiralty Delegation in the USA in a technical supervisory capacity during the last two years of World War 11. Her mathematical skills stood her in good stead in this assignment.
She then worked as the Research Director for the Brewers Association of Canada until her retirement. On her retirement and in recognition of her service to that organization, the Association created a permanent annual award called The Mavis M. Brown Award to be given to the student who graduates from Oxbow High School with the highest composite average in Modern Algebra 30 and Modern Geometry-Trigonometry 30.
She was a long term member of the Ottawa Hunt Club where she enjoyed golf, curling and social activities. In 2017 she was awarded unique status as a Privileged Social Member. With her late husband Roy she was an avid world wide traveller.
A special thanks to the staff of Windsor Park Manor for the special care she received. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may donate to CNIB, Canadian Cancer Society or the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice in Kanata Ontario. A celebration of her life will be held in the chapel at Windsor Park Manor, 990 Hunt Club Road on Wednesday, May 2nd at 2:30pm. Private interment will be held.
