Maureen Edith Stokoe 2018

Maureen Edith Stokoe
February 2, 1950 – November 26, 2018

Maureen Edith Stokoe, of Fredericton, passed away peacefully Monday evening, November 26th, 2018 at Windsor Court. She was born on February 2nd, 1950 in Ottawa, Ontario, daughter of the late Frank Clarke Stokoe and Eileen Joan Stokoe (nee Rowe).

Maureen is survived by her son, Mark-Andre (Claire Marchant) of Vancouver, and brother David (Michele Guerin) of Fredericton. In addition, her extended family includes cousins, uncles, and aunts across England, as well as in the Ottawa area.

The daughter of an RCAF officer, Maureen’s early life was a truly international one, growing up in England, France, and Italy, and travelling to many parts in-between, later returning to St. Jean, Quebec. Her marriage there was the first ever civil union to occur in the region. She graduated from the French language Nursing program at the Bathurst School of Nursing, and then later completed a Bachelor of Sciences degree at the University of New Brunswick.

Born: February 2, 1950 Death: November 26, 2018

Her career was devoted to public service, first at the Workplace Health and Safety Commission as a coordinator, and then later as a Case Manager for Workman’s Compensation. She always worked diligently to ensure that she gave the best representation and fairness for all the workers she dealt with. The end of her career was spent in getting operations up and running at New Brunswick’s first Operational Stress Injury Clinic, focused on helping veterans and members of the public service recovering from post-traumatic stress injuries incurred in the line of duty.

Anyone who knew Maureen knows that one of the great loves of her life was her dogs. She spent some of her happiest days alongside her beloved first dog Jojo, her first SPCA adoption Jasmine, our rambunctious Chester, or sweet quiet Annie, tossing endless balls at the baseball field, or taking long walks through Odell Park.

Despite a long fight with Alzheimer’s, she never truly lost her vibrant charm and cheerful attitude. The family would like to thank the staff of Windsor Court for their years of considerate care.

In keeping with Maureen’s wishes there will be no formal service, but there

will be a private internment for friends and family in the spring at St. John’s Anglican Church.
« Dear Maureen, rest in peace, angels if they be, have taken you back from where you came, to a loving place that all who’ve met you know, of the good will, kindness and thoughtfulness you showed. Where your compass was first set to help others and smile and wonder about the world around you. » She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations in Maureen’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or the Fredericton SPCA.

Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Maureen Edith Stokoe 2018..
