Matthew Walter Hayes

HAYES, Matthew Walter –
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Matt on September 18, 2018 at the age of 46. Loving son of Alden and Sue (nee Swinson) Hayes. Beloved partner of Tracey Panas. Dear brother of Amy Hayes McMann (Richard), best friend – Heather Hayes and Jessica Toushan (Greg). He will be missed by his nieces and nephews; Jacob Hayes, Amelia McMann, Lily Toushan, Mary McMann, Keira Toushan and Theo Toushan. He will be fondly remembered by many extended family and friends.
Matthew Hayes was born April 30th 1972 in Niagara Falls to Alden and Sue Hayes. He went to Ontario Public School and Thorold Secondary School which led to an education at Brock University. He secured a long term job at Resolute where he was able to develop many long lasting friendships but was most recently employed at Solvay.
Matt grew up on a hobby farm in Thorold and was absolutely fascinated with different kinds of birds. An interest fueled by his parents love. He played hockey as a child which may have sparked his life long dedication to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Matthew bought his first home on Corwin Crescent then later moved to Hodgson Avenue. He loved to go out to “Gord’s” for a time; a social life and circle that would later cross his path with his long term girlfriend Tracey Panas. Matt had plenty of other interests and hobbies such as walking his rescue dog “gypsy,” anything Star Wars, video games, guitars, books, music, old cars, wellness and coffee but generously spent most of his spare time showing his care for others in many different ways.
Matt was the strongest, tallest pillar of support for everyone he cared about. His friendly smile was always enough to brighten everyone’s day. He was an amazing, authentic, beautiful person who will be missed beyond what words can describe.
As per Matt’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held on Monday, September 24, 2018 at 2:30 PM at Fairview Cemetery, in Niagara Falls. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the One Foundation would be appreciated.
