Mrs. Mary Smith
Mary Catherine Smith (McIntyre) died peacefully at Riverview Gardens, Chatham on Saturday February 3rd, 2018. She was born in London on November 29th, 1929 to the late Campbell and Cassie (Smith) McIntyre of Yarmouth Township, Elgin County. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert Charles Smith (2013), sister of Margaret Nichols of Sarnia and John (Barbara) McIntyre of London, aunt of Larry Nichols of Sarnia, Laura McIntyre of Toronto, Ian (Jane) McIntyre of Peterborough, Glen (Shauna) McIntyre of Kelona, BC and Gary, Paul and Dale Smith, great aunt of Evan, Kate, Adeline and Caelan McIntyre. Predeceased by brothers-in-law Lloyd Nichols, Lyle Smith and James Smith, sisters-in-law Dora Smith and Erva Smith. Mary graduated from London Normal School and taught in several schools, retiring from McKeough Public School. She resided on the Smith Century Farm (1832) where her husband was the fifth generation until they moved to Chatham in 1999, was a former member of Valetta Presbyterian Church and later became a member of First Presbyterian, Chatham. She enjoyed life and her many get togethers with relatives and friends, especially the Fletcher family. Family and friends are invited to the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home, 245 Wellington West, Chatham, 519-352-2710, on Friday February 9th with visiting from 2 to 4 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the funeral home on Saturday February 10th at 1 p.m. with Rev. Mike Maroney officiating. Interment Stewart Cemetery. Friends planning an expression of remembrance are asked to consider Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation or any of the cancer charities.
