Mary ‘Marlene’ Waechter
1940-2018
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Marlene
Waechter of Port Hawkesbury on Saturday, September
22nd, 2018 at the age of 78 in St.
Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and
Elizabeth (Burt) MacLellan. Marlene moved to Port Hawkesbury
in 1962 where she managed the local Simpsons-Sears. She later worked
in Port Hawkesbury schools assisting children with special learning
needs, and finished her working career with her husband Don at the
Port Hawkesbury Airport until their retirement.
Marlene is survived by her husband of 53 years, Don and their
children Donald, Kentville; Bill and his wife Tammy, Leamington, ON
and Lisa, London, England; her brothers, Jim (Elsie) MacLellan, Glace
Bay and Fred (Patricia) MacLellan, New Waterford; sisters-in-law,
Hughena MacLellan, New Waterford and Wilena Waechter, Banff, AB; her
grandchildren, Scott, Mark, Valerie, Ian and Erin and numerous loving
nieces, nephews and friends.
She was predeceased by her brother, Danny MacLellan and her
sisters, Peggy Gagne, Kay Cameron, Patricia MacNeil, and two brothers
and a sister in infancy.
A funeral mass of celebration will take place on Friday,
September 28th at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Roman
Catholic Church, 138 Granville Street, Port Hawkesbury with Father
Conrad Edwards officiating. Burial to follow in St. Joseph
Parish Cemetery. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Memorial
donations in Marlene’s memory may be made to a charity of
your choice.
The family wishes to thank all those who cared for her,
especially the ICU staff at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital,
Antigonish.
