Mary Margaret Dawson (nee Dunphy) passed away peacefully on Friday, July 27th, 2018, at 77 years of age. Mary was born May 24, 1941 in St. John’s NL, the eldest daughter of the late Emmett and Mary Dunphy. She will forever be in the hearts of her loving husband, John; her four children: Gwen, Darryl, Michele and Michael; and her three grandchildren: Julia, Jacob and Sam.
Mary will be missed by her brothers and sisters: Joe (Carol) Dunphy, Madeline Comeau, Carol Ann (Selwyn) Kletz, Julie (Peter) Bettney, and Jim (Deborah) Dunphy, including John’s siblings and their spouses: Ann (deceased)(Tony) Flynn, Marcellian (Marion) Dawson, Everett (Helen) Dawson, Frances Dawson, Tom Dawson, Madonna (Gary) White, Alice (Emerson) Crane, Sheila (Gilbert) Crane, Kevin (Doreen) Dawson, and Dominic Dawson. Mary was loved by nieces, nephews, relatives and a large circle of friends.
Mary’s love of and sensitivity for music was an inspiration to the community. As a teacher, choir director and piano instructor, Mary touched the hearts and minds of her students, fellow musicians, and an array of audiences who enjoyed hearing her play and learned from her gift. Her ever-generous heart was unfailingly warm and open to anyone who needed care and love and she treated everyone she met as another member of the family. With her children and grandchildren, she was a shining example of love who led with her quick wit, humour, strength, fortitude and joy for life. Above all, Mary was and will always be John’s best friend and his soul mate; their bond was and is an inspiration to all who have ever met them.
We would like to thank the Palliative Care Staff of Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital for their care and compassion during this difficult time. We will always be grateful for all they gave to her. The family will be receiving friends at Russell’s Funeral Home, Stephenville on Sunday July 29th from 7 to 9 pm and on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will take place at St. Stephen’s Parish on Tuesday, July 31st, 2018 at 10 am. In lieu of donations, we would ask that you complete ‘random acts of kindness’: buy a meal for a friend in need, visit a person who is lonely, give a stranger a compliment. These are the things that Mary would be honoured to know are being done in her memory.
