Mary Lou Stairs
1946-2018
Mary Lou Stairs (Kilburn) of Fredericton, New Brunswick
passed away on October 6th, 2018 at the Doctor Everett Chalmers
Hospital after a brief illness. She spent her final hours
surrounded by friends and family at her side, passing gracefully under
the tremendous care and compassion of the staff of 4 North West, to
them we will always be grateful.
Mary Lou spent her life caring for others, it was her
passion. Her kindness and love for her friends and family
were unmatched. She gave of herself to make the lives of
others around her better. One of the many ways she showed
this kindness was through her baking, she loved her time in the
kitchen and was famous for her various fudges, cookies and
treats. Delivery of these gifts was always accompanied by a
visit, she took these opportunities to spend a few moments and make
that person’s day better, she loved
everyone.
Mary Lou was born on Sept 26th, 1946 in Fredericton New
Brunswick. She was pre-deceased by her father, John Kilburn,
her mother, Mary Kilburn (Gallagher) and her oldest brother, Peter
Kilburn (Genevieve). She grew up in Fredericton and
considered it home, she built a vast network of friendships over the
last 7 decades that covered all ages, she was adored by
everyone.
She is survived by her husband, Garnet; son, Craig (Melissa)
and daughter Kim (Tony) as well as brother, Patrick (Marilyn), sister,
Connie Petrie (Gordie), sister, Barb McCormack (Danny) and youngest
brother, Michael. As well she had three grandchildren whom
she cherished deeply, Brittney, Morgan and Ryan. Several
nieces, nephews and others considered her a second mom, her home and
heart were always open and her kindness and loving nature were always
at the ready.
Garnet and Mary Lou celebrated 51 years of marriage this past
May and almost 6 decades as a loving couple. Their caring
and dedication toward one another was evident to the very
end.
Married in May of 1967, they made their way west, Mary Lou
would at that time begin work on her proudest achievement, starting a
family and becoming a mom, she excelled on both accounts.
Returning east in 1972 the family took roots in Fredericton and call
it home today. She spent the next 46 years being the best
mom and wife a family could ask for enjoying many successes in this
regard. She lived a full and wonderful life here on earth
and enjoyed a soft and peaceful transition to her next home, fitting
for a person of her kindness, compassion and
faith.
She believed in God, was faithful to her church, saw the good
in everyone and worked hard to make life better for us all.
She will be missed.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic
Church (1500 Hanwell Road, Fredericton, NB) on Thursday, October 11,
2018 at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian
Diabetes Association. McAdam’s Funeral Home has been entrusted with
the arrangements.
