OBITUARY
Mary Kathleen St.Amour
July 9, 1936 – November 4, 2018
ST. AMOUR: Kathleen ( Kathy) . It is with broken hearts that we announce the recent passing of our beloved mother, Kathleen (Kathy) St. Amour, at Hospice House in Kelowna, British Columbia. She slipped away in our loving arms, surrounded by the love and light of her family and friends, who she knew were around her in spirit, thought and prayer.
Kathy was born, raised and lived in Montreal until her retirement at 75 years old. She went to Ahuntsic School and then onto Mount Royal High School where she graduated with a Diploma in Secretarial Sciences, and then worked for the Sun Life Insurance Company as a bookkeeper. Through her career she was with AADCO Automotive and AutoMaster. She was a loyal and devoted staff member, and loved her work.
Mom’s biggest and proudest accomplishment of her life, was raising three children on her own as a single mother. She lived in the same house where she was born, and grew up with her parents, brother, and grandparents. When she retired, she moved to Cape Breton Nova Scotia, where she spent two years with her daughter JoAnne, Rick and the kids. She enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren, friends (Wing Nuts), and life on the east coast. Mom then moved across the country to Kelowna, BC, to be close to her youngest daughter, Liz and Greg. Mom and Liz were not only family, but the best of friends and spent much time together. Mom treasured her visits from her son Michael, and her grandchildren as well.
She lived at the Northwoods Retirement Community, where she made many friends and participated in various service projects with her “Stitches and Stories” group, including Food Bank Tiny Bundles, Society of Hope, Tiny Tots, The Shoebox initiative, and the Northwood Retirement Gospel Mission. Her biggest passion was knitting and crocheting, and she was a Master. If you were gifted with one of her creations, you know she made it with love, and that when you wrap it around yourself, it is a big hug from her. We are so grateful that her last years were spent traveling and adventuring, especially to see where her Mother was born in England. She made friends everywhere she journeyed and will be sorely missed by them for her kindness, generosity and wicked sense of humour. Mom also relished her fun at Trivia nights, Bingo, the casino, and anything to do with Andre Rieu and his music. You could always find her in the audience at Dreamland Band concerts here in Kelowna, where she took such pride in watching Liz play the saxophone. Oh how she loved her waltzes and big band jazz!
Besides her parents Mary and Herbert Drabble, she was predeceased by her loving brother Herbert Drabble Jr.
She is survived by her children Liz St.Amour (Greg Paynter) of Kelowna, British Columbia, JoAnne (Rick) Connors of Christiansburg, Virginia, and Mike St-Amour of Enterprise, Northwest Territories. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, the lights of her life, Melissa (Ozkan) Gosku, Toronto, ON; Brendan Connors, Melbourne, Australia; Renée Connors, Fort Severn, ON; Lana Connors, Vancouver, BC; Karl Lenoir, Victoria, BC; Katherine Lenoir, Edmonton, AB; Gina Lenoir, Enterprise, NT; and great-granddaughter Esila Goksu, Toronto, ON.
She will also be missed by her cousins and extended family, especially the Martins, and the friends who she considered family.
We invite you to celebrate Mom’s life with all her family on Thursday, December 27th, 2pm in the Atrium at her home, Northwood’s Retirement Resort, 1277 Gordon Avenue, Kelowna BC.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Central Okanagan Hospice Association or the Canadian Cancer Society.
