« Minnie »– Age 89 years of Canso,
Guys Co. Passed away peacefully in Eastern Memorial Hospital, Canso
with her daughter, Margie by her side on Tuesday, March 13,
2018.
Born in Canso, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Mary
(Bond) Casey. She was a very strong woman and fought a courageous
battle. She leaves behind her daughter, Margie (Terry) Horne, Canso;
son, Pat (Gayle), Dartmouth; grandchildren, Shawn, Shea and Donnie;
sisters, Anna, Canso; Stella, (Joe), Canso; Special niece, Ann Marie,
who’s been like a daughter to her and has always been there
for us. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Don;
brothers, Charlie, Joseph and Patrick.
Minnie was known for her volunteer work, and in her younger
years she was the founder of the Ladies Auxiliary Canso Fire
Department, where she was president for 15 years. She was an avid
volunteer of the Ladies Auxiliary Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 46,
Canso and a member of the Veterans Club, Branch 46, Canso. She will be
sadly missed by all who knew and loved her, especially Canso Seaside
Manor where she resided, where the staff took excellent care of her.
Thank you to the staff of Eastern Memorial Hospital you all gave her
special care and we thank you for that. A special thank you to Dr.
Dobek your kindness to our mother will be never be
forgotten.
Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. on Friday, March 16 in
Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral mass will be 11 a.m.
Saturday, March 17 from Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso
with Father Jonathan Nnajiofor officiating. Burial will follow in the
parish cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in memory of Minnie to a
