Mary Elizabeth Poudrier
November 03, 1918 – October 24, 2018
POUDRIER (Bonin), (Mary) Elizabeth –
It is with a sad heart that I announce the peaceful passing of my dear Mom during the early hours of Wednesday, October 24th, just shy of her landmark 100th birthday.
Mom was born and raised in the Acadian community of West Chezzetcook on November 3, 1918 to the late Daniel and Angelique Bonin (Murphy).
She was predeceased by her husband, Paul, 27 years ago, as well as by her brothers Edward and Irvin, and sister Lillian.
Mom loved the simple things in life like picking berries ‘in the woods’ and enjoying time spent visiting with family and friends. Many a car ride was taken over the years to Maine to visit friends as well as traveling to Quebec and Montreal to visit with relatives.
Mom never learned to drive a car but that didn’t slow her down. Walking not only got her where she wanted to go, even when drives were available, but they provided her with a huge source of enjoyment. Keeping up with her could be challenging!
Mom lived a life of dedicated service. Whether it was for the families she worked for as a young girl (McKeen, Shaw, Norwood and Burkart), the clergy at her beloved St. Peter Church, or her own family and friends. She took great pride in caring for their needs.
She loved to clean and was an amazing cook. Above all else, Mom was a strong lady of great character and a woman of deep faith which saw her through every aspect of her long life. Nothing would ever keep her from attending mass or praying her daily prayers and rosary. Mom always put everyone else’s needs ahead of her own.
She is survived by her daughter Ann (Marie), son-in-law Danny and cherished grand-daughter Lauren.
Mom spent the last three years of her life at Oakwood Terrace in Dartmouth. Not only did the staff of ‘A’ Unit take wonderful care of Mom, they became family. A sincere ‘Thank You’ to all staff and to those very special residents for your tender loving care and friendship.
We have been beyond blessed to have Mom in our lives so much longer than most.
Now Dearest Mom….give Dad a big hug from me, catch up with all your pals, and get your walking shoes on. I can only imagine the places you’ll go.
