Mary Ann Hoffman (Auer)
Mary Ann Evelyn Hoffman passed away very peacefully on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at St. Lawrence Lodge in Brockville, at the age of 83. She had visits and phone calls from family throughout the day, including all five children and many of her grandchildren. She was predeceased by her wonderful husband Herbert Leo Hoffman; her parents Anton and Anna Auer; and six siblings, Paul, Helen, Donna Mae, James, George, and Herbert. She is survived by her brother Raymond and sisters Gladys and Rosie; her children Karen (Kevin) Frech, Deborah Hoffman (Bengt Schumacher), David (Jan) Hoffman, Mark (Marlene) Hoffman, and Michael Hoffman; and grandchildren Amanda, Spencer, Kyah, Torey, Jade, Alex, Becky, Cole, Matthew, and Natalie.
Mary Ann was born August 23, 1935 and grew up on a farm near Mahnomen, Minnesota. After graduating from high school with honours, she moved to Minneapolis and worked as a telephone operator until she married Herb on June 27, 1959 and started their family. In 1971, they bought a fishing resort and moved to Sioux Narrows, Ont. on Lake of the Woods. They owned and operated the resort for over 30 years. After retiring they spent summers in Sioux Narrows and winters in Arizona. Mary Ann moved to Brockville in 2014, first to Bridlewood Manor and then to St. Lawrence Lodge. She loved fishing, flowers and gardening, word games and puzzles, and music. She led the hymns at Sacred Heart Parish in Sioux Narrows for many years. She was famous for knowing words to so many songs, and a song to go with any word.
Roman Catholic Liturgy of the Christian Funeral will be held on Monday, October 15, 2018 at 11:00 am, with viewing starting at 10:00 am and Words of Remembrance at 10:45 am, at Lake of the Woods United Church, 5 Johnson Road in Sioux Narrows. Interment at the Pineridge cemetery in Sioux Narrows will take place after the service, followed by a reception. Arrangements are entrusted to Irvine Funeral Home, Brockville.
