Obituary Overview
Martha Evans (nee Michener)
Martha died surrounded by the warmth of her family’s love on Sunday. Which was appropriate because for Martha, Sunday is the Lord’s Day. A fitting day to be called home.
Just days before, God called her precious husband Lorne home on Thanksgiving weekend – fitting for a man of such gratitude for God’s gifts.
God was no less generous with his gifts for Martha. Perhaps that’s why she chose to place her faith at the core of her being. It was the source of the love that passed the heartbeat of her values to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and beyond.
Martha was predeceased by a few days by her husband Lorne, and previously her brother Mel Michener and parents Art and Letty Michener.
Martha’s mother was a pioneering social worker in Winnipeg who, through her example, instilled in Martha the calling of community service. The Day Nursery Centre of Winnipeg, the Junior League, the United Way of Winnipeg, Meal on Wheels, Catholic Women’s League and many other organizations and causes benefitted from the force of Martha’s commitment to social justice.
An extension of her faith, Martha’s family was her everything and witness to her example:
Her loving children, Kevin (Ronnaug), David (Susan Kagan), Michael (Brenda), Mary Morton (Jeffrey), and Bruce (Brenda); grandchildren Kristin (Colin Stange), Erik (Amanda), Sarah Gagne (Ray), Alex Morton, Andrew (Hilary Hagerman), Nikki (Brett Cameron), Stephen (Erin Kiazyk), Danielle (Benjamin Luff), Daria and Lisa; and great-grandchildren, Joshua Gagne, Theo and Marley Evans, and Juno and Milo Stange.
Martha’s funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 4588 Roblin Blvd. Winnipeg, at 10:30 am on Friday, October 19, Msgr. M. Comeault presiding. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Doctors Without Borders or Rossbrook House. Martha’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Brightwater Senior Living for the care they provided for the past several months.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Martha Evans nee Michener 2018..
