Marjorie « Marj » Nicholson
Nicholson (Payne), Marjorie Ida “Marj” – age 91 of Dartmouth/Manitoba, passed away quietly with her family at her bedside on January 29, 2018 in Ocean View Continuing Care. Born in Sinclair, Manitoba on March 28, 1926 to the late John and Florence (Duncan) Payne. Marj was predeceased by her husband John “Nick” (2006); older brother, Harvey; sisters in law, Hannah and Florence and younger brother, William. She is survived by her son, John (Debbie); daughter, Ann Brayton (Thomas) and granddaughter, Jennifer Brayton all of Dartmouth, In Manitoba, she survived by sister in law, Verna Payne; first cousin, Mary Moffatt; three nieces and one nephew and their children. This prairie girl became a true Nova Scotian after 70 years of enjoying all areas of the province from Pinehurst, Truro, to Sydney and over 50 years in Dartmouth. She loved her fish dinners and nothing better than tearing apart a lobster. Marj loved the time at their cottage in Melville, Pictou County, walking the beach and endless evening games of scrabble and cribbage. Marj was always ready and excited for a day at the race course to watch her son drive too fast. She shared her talent of knitting, crocheting and needlework with all. Could spend the whole morning doing all the newspapers puzzles. As her mobility and eye sight failed she still enjoyed dining out monthly with the lunch bunch, listening to the radio and good conversation over a coffee. Especially school stories with her granddaughter, Jen. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9pm Friday, February 2 with a funeral service 10 am Saturday, February 3, Rev. Michael Mugford officiating, reception to follow all in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth. Burial in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens at later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Red Cross Equipment, Troop Ave. or the Nova Scotia Arthritis Society or a charity of choice.
