Obituary Overview
Forever Remembered
JANZEN, Marilyn (nee Melendy)
October 17, 1940 – January 11, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother on Thursday, January 11, 2018 as a result of injuries sustained following a tragic accident outside of her home. Mum grew up on the family farm in Carseland, AB with her parents and brother. Always wanting to help others, she pursued a career in nursing and spent many years working at the Bethany Care Centre in Calgary. She later took on the role as a union rep, a perfect role for one who tenaciously stood up for what she believed in. Mum later moved to the family vacation home, built by her parents in Windermere, BC and continued her nursing at the Invermere Hospital. When Mum retired, she moved back to Calgary, where she lovingly cared for her parents until their passing. Mum was a devoted friend to all. Whether it was to give a ride or her passionate opinion, Mum was known for being a trusted confidant and was the one many of us called upon when we were in need. She loved travelling with her beloved dog, Molly, playing crib, sharing a good laugh, meeting up with her friends for tea at the mall and fully enjoyed being involved with The Royal Canadian Legion, especially the Poppy Drive. Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, Wilbur and Helen; her brothers, Worthy and Robert; and her grandson, Joseph. Marilyn was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed by hers sons and daughter: Joseph (Margret) Janzen, Martin (Elizabeth) Janzen, Marlene (John) Benko, and Michael (Gabriela) Janzen; thirteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and a large circle of close friends. Mum always put her family and friends first, and leaves her loved ones with a legacy of honesty, strength, and selflessness to live by. While missing her will be a heartache that never goes away, remembering her each day will come easy. As per Mum’s wishes, no service will be held. A Gathering for family and friends will be announced at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to The Royal Canadian Legion North Calgary Branch 264 (1918 Kensington Road NW, Calgary, AB T2N 3R5, www.kensingtonlegion.ca). The family would like to thank the Calgary Fire Department, EMS and the Staff at the Foothills Hospital Emergency and ICU, Unit C and the Calgary Police for all their compassion and assistance.
