Marie Pauline Young
1924-2018
Marie passed away peacefully
at York Care Centre with two of her five children at her side. She was
born in Holtville, New Brunswick, the second eldest of thirteen
children. She joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) at age
eighteen, and was posted in several areas of the Maritimes until the
end of World War II. She returned to Fredericton to work for
the NB government, marrying Robert (Bob) Henry Young in
1950.
Marie lived a long and full
life in several communities in NB due to Bob’s work in the
Department of Natural Resources. She actively volunteered for many
organizations such as the Fredericton Community Kitchen, Laubach
Literacy, Ploughshares, UCW, Meals on Wheels and more. She was very
proud of being awarded the YMCA Peace Medal with Bob. They were
faithful members of the United Church of Canada. Marie loved to play
bridge and do crossword puzzles, and later became a regular swimmer
with the Silver Dolphins. She and Bob travelled throughout Canada and
the US, but her trips to Scotland were the most memorable to
her.
Marie is survived by her
children Judith (John) Brannen of West Chezzetcook NS; Karen (Eric)
LeBlanc of Fredericton; Linda (David Lombardi) of Dartmouth NS;
Dorothy (Dan) Rice of Three Fathom Harbour NS; and Rob (Yvonne) of
Nelson BC. Marie is also survived by grandchildren Amy (Andrew
Pearson), Jessica and Eva Brannen; Daniel Gallagher; Anne (Derek
Peddle) and Peter Lombardi, Victoria Rice; and Bryce and Claire Young.
She was thrilled to be great-grandmother to Araminta Gallagher, Astrid
and Erik Axel Langstrom Brannen. She is survived by brothers Irvine
and Merle of Boiestown NB; Floyd of New Maryland and Wendell of
Nashwaak Village, NB; along with many nieces and
nephews.
Marie was predeceased by Bob;
her parents Irvine and Nellie (Case) Ross; brothers Ellis, Darold,
Glen, Vaughn, Kenneth, Cassias (Cash) and Gordon; sister Brenda (in
infancy) and grandson Patrick Gallagher.
The family would like to
express our thanks to the staff of York Care Centre for their care of
Mom for the last six years.
A memorial service will take
place on September 8 at 11:00am at Wilmot United Church, Fredericton.
Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation,
Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Diabetes Association, or a charity
of choice. McAdam’s Funeral Home has been entrusted with the
arrangements.
