Marie Mayola Lohnes
Marie Mayola Lohnes, 84, of Lunenburg passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2018, at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.
Born in Lunenburg on November 13, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mildred (Smith) Dominix.
Marie started her working career at Levy’s in Lunenburg then Himmelman’s. From there she worked at the Bluenose Lodge and Eaton’s and then to work at the Royal Bank until retirement.
Marie was a faithful member of Central United Church where she sang in the choir and gave many hours of volunteering with the U.C.W. Marie was actively involved for many years as Coordinator for the Lunenburg Interchurch Food Bank where she was so dedicated to so many.
She was an avid gardener and incredible baker. Her skills at quilting, smocking, knitting, crocheting and rug hooking were amazing. Marie was kind hearted and giving to her family and friends.
Marie is survived by her sons, Kevin R. Lohnes (Carmen Craig), Bayport; Stephen Lohnes (Carole Joly), Cornwall, ON; grandchildren, Julie Lohnes-Cashin (Douglas), Middle Sackville; Jennifer Lohnes, Halifax; Jeffrey (Jil) Lohnes, Toronto, ON; step-grandchildren, Shane O’Conner, Erin O’Connor, (Jeremy) Bougie, Mathew O’Conner (Jessica) Besner, Montreal; great-grandchildren, Laurel Lohnes-Cashin, Sophia Lohnes, step-great-grandchildren, Mia O’Conner, Riley Bougie, aunt, Barbara Deal, Lunenburg, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert L. Lohnes, her parents, brother, Wallace (Buddy) Dominix and niece, Sandra Pineo.
Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #. 3, Lunenburg and where a service of remembrance to celebrate Marie’s life will be held Tuesday, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg.
At Marie’s reguest, donations in her memory can be made to Music for the Future (Tusarraanniq Surement Association) a charity founded by her grand-daughter, Julie that provides opportunities for youth in remote Communities in Nunavut to learn music as a healthy creative outlet. www.musicforthefuture.ca
