OBITUARY
Marie Josephia Hayward
3 February , 1929 – 20 April , 2018
It is with deep sorrow and sadness that the family of Marie Josephia Hayward, 89, announces her sudden passing at home in Halifax.
Marie was a fun loving, hard working woman who always had a smile on her face. She led a very active life and thrived on being busy, creative, and was involved in many activities. Marie was a member of the Mayflower Quilters’ Guild, a life-long bowler (since the 1950’s) and played cards regularly right up until her death. You were a very special person if you were lucky enough to receive one of her lovely quilts as a gift. Marie retired from a job that she really enjoyed at NSIT. Marie loved the social aspects of her job and took great pride in helping many students at the library.
Marie was predeceased by her husband, Charles Clifford Hayward in 2004. She is survived by four children, Charles, Dartmouth, Marilyn Nickel (George), Alberta, Carolyn, Halifax, James (Heather) Westville. Marie was also blessed to have seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The grandchildren are Patricia Sookbirsingh, Chuck Hayward, Andrew Nickel, Christopher Nickel, Steven Hayward, Sally Hayward and Amy Hayward. Her great grandchildren are: Anika and Natalia Sookbirsingh, Caitlyn MacKay, Cassandra and Courtney Hayward and Ethan Nickel. All of these grandchildren and great grandchildren will miss their very special Nan/Grand-Nan/Grammie.
Marie is also survived by siblings, Margaret Beaver, William Durant and Hermine LeBlanc. She was predeceased by siblings: John Durant and Josephine Boyd.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation Thursday April 26, 2-4 and 7-9 pm at JA Snow Funeral Home, Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Funeral mass Saturday April 28, 11am at Saint Mother Teresa of Kolkata Parish, Normandy Drive, Halifax, Fr. Andrew Rembarczyk officiating. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
