It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Claire Phillips. She passed away peacefully on December 23, 2018 at the Elk Valley Hospital at the age of 95. Though sad to part with her family, she died hopeful that she would soon be reunited with loved ones who passed before her.
Left to mourn her passing are her children, Suzanne (Brian) Holm, Elizabeth Horst and Raymond (Lois) Phillips; her grandchildren, Paula Holm, Christine (Allan) Maloney, Jason (Carmen) Horst, Danielle (Martin) Holm-Polunkiszlus, Tara (Ben) Kohlen, and David Phillips; her great-grandchildren, Cole and Tylar Kraychy, Claire Maloney, Otto, Marilyn and Amelia Horst, and Jordan, Ethan and Parker Polunkiszlus, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Claire was predeceased by her husband Frank; son Jimmy; son-in-law Otto Horst; parents Alphonse and Alice; sisters Marie-Blanche, Marie-Anne Yvonne, Adrienne, Lucienne, Adeline, Eveline, Aline, Emilienne, Alice, and Leda, and brothers Gerard, Leo, Hector, Raymond, Joseph and Alfred.
Claire was an extraordinary woman who lived a remarkable life – she will be missed terribly.
A special thank you to Dr. Ron Clark who was Claire’s family doctor for nearly 40 years; to the medical team at the Elk Valley Hospital who provided compassionate and dignified end of life care to Claire for the last 5 weeks; to the Elk Valley Home Support workers whose support allowed Claire to remain living in her home independently until the day she was admitted to the hospital; and to Dale Newlove for her extra assistance and willingness to help out.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the East Kootenay Foundation for Health (Fernie Hospital) or the Fernie Family Housing Society (Tom Uphill Manor) would be greatly appreciated.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Marie-Claire Leontine Turgeon PHILLIPS June 22 1923 December 23 2018 (age 95)..
