Mrs. Maria Graciela Sanchez
Maria Graciela Sanchez – It was November 9, 2018 when Graciela passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family. She is survived by her sons Jose (Susan) and Felipe (Jane), grandchildren Lily, Alex and Jennilee and her brother Javier and many nephews. She is predeceased by her loving husband Jose Sr., her brothers Ricardo and Pedro Alonso, and sister Beatriz.
Graciela was born in 1948 in Santa Fe de Antioquia, Colombia and moved to Toronto with her family in the early 1970’s, eventually settling down in Mississauga and Oakville. At first she worked shifts in a factory to support her family, but she was a determined young woman who attended night school English classes and completed courses at Sheridan College to earn her certifications for the insurance business; she eventually retired from the insurance division of the Bank of Montreal. Graciela was an extrovert and liked nothing better than spending time with family and friends. She connected easily with people including her GO Train buddies (4th car from the front!) that she met each morning to chit-chat and celebrate special occasions. Later in life she even made friends online participating in many puzzle clubs around the world. Somehow she also made time to read avidly and to complete her much loved Toronto Star crossword each Saturday . She was a devoted wife, mother, and abuela and we will miss her very much.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 15th from 6:00pm to 7:30pm at the Oakview Funeral Home, 56 Lakeshore Road West in Oakville.
