Marguerite Alberta Knight passed away peacefully at Stratford General Hospital on Tuesday January 23, 2018, in her 95th year. Marg, born on April 20, 1923, was a lifetime resident of Stratford. She was the oldest child of the late Albert and Margaret (Smith) Cawston. On January 17, 1948, she married George Walter Knight (1995). They raised their three children, Dave, Steve (1990) and Karen Mavity (Kelly) on Portia Blvd. Dear Grandma of Sarah Knight (Rick), Corey Knight (Pauline), Jeff Mavity (Emily), Michelle Mavity Feeney (Bill) and Chris Mavity. Proud great-grandma of Alexis Brooks, Kelsey Dixon, Hudson and Nash Knight and Brynn Feeney. Fondly remembered by daughter-in-law Lynn Knight (Ted), special sister Margaret Lamont (Steve) and nieces Frances Philip Youngblut (Jim) and Sue Cawston Foster (Kent). Marg was the last surviving member of her immediate family; predeceased by her sister Dorothy Matheson (Gerald), and brothers Bert and Ed (Dorothy) Cawston. Survived by Bert’s wife, Roberta. Also predeceased by George’s mother Rosanna Philip Knight and his brothers Edward “Lefty” and Bob (Greta) Philip. She was an employee at Samsonite of Canada as a luggage inspector for 23 years, retiring in 1982, where she met many lifelong friends. Marg and George were actively involved in the Stratford Royal Canadian Legion. For years, Marg played cribbage, euchre, darts and bowled on various Legion Ladies Auxiliary teams at tournaments across Ontario. She was an avid golfer and member of the Stratford Municipal Golf Course Ladies League. Marg, for many years, played in the Wednesday Women’s Cribbage League. She will be affectionately remembered for her love of sports, especially the Toronto Blue Jays and Maple Leafs. She spent many hours working on jigsaw and crossword puzzles, crocheting and most recently painting. Marg’s family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Spruce Lodge, where Marg resided for the past two years, as well as the staff of the Anne Hathaway Residence, where she lived for the four years previous. Many thanks to the staff at Stratford General Hospital for their compassionate care and support in Marg’s final days. Friends will be received at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford, on Saturday January 27th from 2-6 p.m. The funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday January 28th at the funeral home.
