Obituary Overview
Margaret (Helen) Hans
Hans, Margaret HELEN (Nee Callander)
May 4, 1929 – April 10, 2018
Helen passed away peacefully at the age of 88 surrounded by family. Helen will be forever loved and sadly missed by her loving husband Bill, children Monty (Denise), Kevin (Louise), Brenda (Jamie), Barbara (Dave), Gordon (Shelli), Bob (Sofia), Trevor (Nicolle), Billy, Maureen (AJ), 15 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, her two sisters, Leila and Muriel, as well as many other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Stanley and Ethel, brother Keith, grandson Tom, brother-in-law’s George and Bob, and sister-in-law Lois. Helen was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan and spent her youth in nearby Tonkin. She graduated nursing school as an RN from Saskatoon City Hospital in 1951. While attending nursing school, Helen met her husband Bill. They married in 1952. After 2 years of working as an RN, Helen took on the mammoth task of having and raising 9 children, born between 1953 and 1966. Once the children were in school, she had enough energy left to work part time at Woolco. Helen spent several years as a volunteer at the Foothills Hospital and Tom Baker Center. Other than being with her family, she enjoyed her time exercising and socializing with her aquasize group. Bill and Helen celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in June 2017. Helen was an unconditionally loving, caring, and unselfish person; always choosing to be of service to others. Family came first. Helen’s smile was beautiful, contagious, and her signature trademark. She will be deeply missed, but the lessons learned through her actions will always be with us. Helen’s family would like to thank the staff at AHS/CBI Home Care, the Day Program at Carewest Signal Pointe, Foothills Hospital (Unit 81), and Wentworth Manor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Calgary at alzheimercalgary.ca. A celebration of life funeral service will be held on Tuesday April 17th at 2p.m.
