Our Hearts Remember
On November 22, Margaret Elliott (nee Shand) passed away peacefully at the age of 95 with family at her side.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 69 years Harold; four children Terry (Neal), Rob, Don, and Brian (Bobbie); two grandchildren Heather and Kerry; and four great grandchildren Griffyn, Natalie, Jillian and Derek.
Margaret grew up in Czar and Provost, graduating from Provost High School in 1942.
Margaret and her sister Eva joined the Air Force in early 1943 and were based in Pearce, Vulcan, Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Yorkton. Margaret received her discharge papers in Calgary in 1945.
Margaret met Harold Elliott in 1946 at Marshall Wells in Edmonton. They married in 1949.
Margaret was an avid oil painter, belonging to the Edmonton Art Club for a number of years and was president in 1983. She spent many happy hours driving around in her Vanagon painting scenes from all over the province. Her primary loves were the mountains and prairie landscapes.
She returned to the workforce working at Woodward’s in the stationary department from 1966 to the mid 80’s.
She was a very avid birder, being able to identify all local varieties by sight and most by song. A great lover of the outdoors she was always in reach of either her paints or a camera.
She travelled considerably once the children left home. Her travels took her to the Galapagos Islands, Haida Gwaii , Europe and the east coast of Canada in addition to her numerous Alberta travels.
The family would like to thank the staff of Jubilee Nursing Home for the kindness and caring they provided to her during her 5 years spent living there. Their consideration and care are truly appreciated.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Glenwood Funeral Home, (South of Wye Road on Range Road 232, Sherwood Park, AB) at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flower, donations in Margaret’s name can be made to the Lois Hole Hospital for Women.
