Margaret Elizabeth Hall, aged 100 years, departed this life and passed into eternal life on September 4, 2018 at White Rapids Manor, Fredericton Junction, New Brunswick, Canada.
Margaret was born on March 30, 1918 in York, Pennsylvania, where she grew up. She was the first child of Hilda Anna (Leckey) and Lucien Curtis Peeling. In 1939, she received her bachelor’s degree in Institutional Cookery from Drexel University in Philadelphia, where she and John Lincoln Hall met. They were married in York in June 1940.
They settled in northern New Jersey, first in Springfield and later in East Hanover, where John was employed by the Curtiss Wright Corporation as an aeronautical engineer. In the 1950’s Peg began teaching Home Economics at the local middle school. She was also active in Grace Lutheran Church, Livingston, the East Hanover P.T.A., and the East Hanover First Aid Squad. In addition to her many community activities, she was an energetic and devoted mother to their three children: Pat, John, and Sally. Their home in East Hanover was filled with happiness and her creative spirit, whether it be her gardens, the meals, or the countless outfits that she sewed.
In 1972 both Peg and John took early retirement from their jobs as teacher and engineer and moved to Fredericton Junction, beginning new careers as crafts persons and apple growers.
Peg was active in the organizing and operating the South Central Development Council (S.C.D.C.), which ran a shop in Fredericton Junction where crafters of the York-Sunbury-Charlotte area could show and sell their crafts.
Peg was a beekeeper and was known for her hand dipped beeswax candles and flavourful honey. She was a hand spinner, rug hooker, and quilter. Several of her quilts were exhibited and won prizes at the Fredericton Exhibition.
For many years she was organist for Saint Luke’s Anglican Church, Hoyt.
She is survived by their three children Pat Taniashvili (Iosif ) of Surry, Maine; John W. Hall (Susan) of Fredericton Junction, and Sally Robinson (Terry) of Clinton, Illinois; grandchildren Matthew, Rebecca, Sarah, John S., Katherine, Jonathan, and Emily; and great-grandchildren Zachary, Meegan, Liam R., Liam J., and Christian.
She was predeceased by her husband John in 2005, by her sister Ruth Peeling Barbour, and by her parents.
