Margaret passed away peacefully at the Rockyview Hospital from complications from advanced dementia. She has been blessed to be married to a wonderful man, Aubrey Sawatzky, for the past 45 years. They were truly devoted to each other in their own unique way. Margaret’s first husband was Karel McAvena (predeceased) and the two of them went into permanent shock after their family quickly grew to six children in 4 ½ years, the last pregnancy being triplets. Marg was 23 years old at that time. All… us children thrived under her mother bear attitude. We are Pat (Ken) Mahon, Doug McAvena, Dan (Linda) McAvena, Judy (recently predeceased) (Allan) Deitrich, Joyce McAvena and Jim McAvena. Margaret had a very special bond with all of her 8 grandchildren and totally enjoyed every visit with her 6 great-grandchildren. Margaret was a diligent prayer warrior and lived and practiced her beliefs every day. She was one of the founders of the Okotoks Food Bank and dedicated her time for over 25 years helping the community. Margaret enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, sewing and she was always up for a good debate. We would also like to send our praises to the staff on the Nottingham floor at Tudor Manor for the wonderful love they gave Margaret. The service will be held at the Evangelical Free Church (28 Westland Road, Okotoks) at 2:00 pm August 1, 2018. Everyone is welcome. Interment to follow the service and refreshments will be served at the church.
