Obituary of Marc Mullin
With broken hearts, we announce the passing of Marc Melbourne James Henry Mullin, age 49, which occurred following a brief illness on Saturday December 1, 2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital , surrounded by his loving family and friends. Marc is the beloved husband of Katherine (Hawkes) Mullin. He was born in Saint John on January 7, 1969, a son of Melvin Mullin and the late Judith Cornfield.
Marc and his brother Brent spent most of their childhood with their Gram and “Bub” Cornfield. It was there that he learned his great family values. He was a jokester in school but that didn’t stop him from learning what he needed to know and graduating in 1988.
He met his high school sweetheart, Kathy through her brother. He used to use the PA system in his vehicle to talk to her from the driveway and ask her out. Eventually, she agreed. They were married on June 30, 1989. They welcomed Jake, James and later, Joel to their family.
His world revolved around Kathy and the boys and when he wasn’t busy working or going to school he was spending time with them. He also enjoyed going mudding with friends, working on vehicles in his spare time and spending time with family as often as he could.
He was involved with his boys’ hockey programs over the years and took all three to the day of champions year end tournament. He received the top coach award in 2004-2005 when Jake and James’ team won. He also lead Joel’s team to a win in 2007-2008.
A true jack of all trades, he earned his red seal certification in automotive, heavy equipment, welding and millwright. A lifelong learner who was constantly learning and earning certificates. In highschool he worked at Carl Rouse’s garage and the Irving Service Station and the Irving Restaurant . He later worked as a tow truck driver for GW Hughes. He and Kathy then opened Dairytown Auto Clinic in Sus . They ran it hand in hand, with their family’s help. Even the boys were known to give a hand every once in a while. He wore many hats at several local workplaces and truly enjoyed his work and the coworkers he has met along the way. He was most recently working in Saskatchewan at the K3 Mine Project where he was travelling between there and home.
In recent years his time at home was split between drives with Kathy and his countless home renovation projects. He was a wonderful handyman who knew how to do just about every job and occasionally even finishing them. His true joy was spending as much time with his beloved grandchildren as possible and teasing them and their parents relentlessly. He filled the yard with swingsets, the pool and all sorts of heavy machinery to entertain the grandkids. Their home is a place to eat whatever snacks they want and drag “Grumpy” around to the next activity. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Marc is survived by his wife Kathy; sons Jake (Jenna) Mullin of Picadilly, James Mullin of Sus Corner, Joel Mullin (Miranda) of Sus; grandchildren Marley, Brock, Luke, Clark, Kyleigh and Oliver; his father Melvin (Jan) Mullin; brothers Brent (Karen) Mullin of Norton, Shawn McLaughlin of Saint John; sister Tammy Mullin-Hachey (Scott) of Fredericton; aunts Joanne (John) Park, Patricia (Michael) Cosman; father-in-law Ralph (Sherry) Hawkes; aunt-in-law Elaine (Chris) Riedel; sisters-in-law Patty (Bill) Howe, Susan (John) Pearson; brother-in-law Stephen Hawkes; as well as several other much loved aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.
